First, I would like to thank Mr. Atwell for giving me the opportunity to be the President of Coastal Transport.  Secondly, I
want to express our gratitude to Mr. Jerry Matthews for serving as President for the past  4 1/2  years.  Rich has provided
this company with the assets necessary to do our jobs and Jerry has provided the leadership for us to work together to
provide a quality service to our customers.

Please notice I referred to these two gentlemen as Rich and Jerry, which I feel comfortable with, as do they, and I feel it
indicates the family type of spirit in which our company operates. In keeping with this family concept, I would like to be
referred to as Tim in our communications.

I would like to clarify our recent reorganization. We have created a new position of Executive Vice President and Mr.
Brent Geiger has been promoted to that position, in which he will be responsible for the operations of our company and
our Regional Vice Presidents, along with the Vice President of Maintenance will report directly to him.
I will retain the Sales and Marketing responsibility that I have had for the last 4 years.  The Executive Vice President,
along with our Vice President of Finance & Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Tom Braaten, and our Vice President of Safety,
Mr. James Hartmann, will report to me as well as all the sales force.

Our company is in a strong position.  We increased our business by 15 to 21 percent each year  from 1999 to 2001.
However, in the last few years our growth has been minimal due to a shortage of qualified drivers to service our
customers.  Mr. Atwell has provided us with the financial means to keep our equipment up to date.  A good example of
this is our purchase of 88 new tractors this year.

Also, he has approved the purchase of a new computer system to help with the accounting part of our business and an
on-board system for our tractors to help track miles, times on various trips, logs, speeds, etc.  We shall begin to see these
new assets in place in the very near future.

I am very excited about these new systems and would ask that everyone realize it will involve changes in the way we do
things.  These new technical assets, used properly, will make us more efficient and will help place our company Miles
Ahead of our competition.

But even with our new technology let’s remember that people will be necessary to provide service to our customers and
our people will remain our strongest asset.  We continue to need more qualified drivers and we need everyone to assist
in any way they can to help us to fill this need.  Remember, more drivers will allow us to grow and become a stronger
company.

In closing, for this issue I ask for everyone’s help in providing quality service to our customers without compromising
safety in doing so.
                                                                                            Remember – Let’s Stay Miles Ahead…..
